Pregnancy & Postpartum Care

Pregnancy

Pregnancy can put quite a bit of strain on our musculoskeletal systems, as well as our bowel and bladder!  Women may experience musculoskeletal pain in the pelvic girdle, that limits ability to perform daily tasks.  Pelvic girdle pain typically shows up after 20 weeks gestation, but can become a problem earlier too.  Pelvic girdle pain is basically, pain or discomfort in the low back, sacro-iliac joints, pubic sysmphysis and/or hips.  These joints are all susceptible to stress with growth of baby and the hormonal changes that pregnancy brings.

Our specialists in pre-natal care can help improve function and reduce pain during pregnancy.  Seeing a specialist during pregnancy can help you prepare for labor, as research supports that women who exercise and are strong and healthy during pregnancy have an easier recovery afterward. Our specialists will spend time educating our clients in how the pelvic floor muscles function for labor, how to perform perineal stretching to prevent tears, positions that protect the perineum for labor and breathing techniques.  Knowing and understanding that you have choices in labor is empowering, and can reduce anxiety about the process, to improve the birth experience.

We can help with:

  • Low back pain
  • Sacroiliac joint pain
  • Pubic symphysis pain
  • Bladder leakage
  • Prolapse
  • Varicosities
  • Swelling
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Sciatica
  • Tailbone pain
  • Strengthening and education regarding delivery

Post Partum Care

Having a baby is tough, whether vaginally or by Cesarean Section.  The stress our bodies undergo is immense, and often as women we aren’t given the time our bodies need to heal.  Just like any tissue injury, the body needs time to repair itself.  Our post partum specialists can help educate clients in how to begin to strengthen, how to care for perineal tear, C-section scar care, how to improve Diastasis Recti and much more.

We provide a comfortable environment, with one on one sessions for a full hour, to assess what you individually are struggling with. This allows us to focus our plan of care specifically to our individual client for the best results.  Every person is different in their movement strategies after baby which is why an individual approach to dysfunction after baby is key.  We offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so you can feel confident that our services will be beneficial to you.
